This collection not only provides a massive range of Classical works online for free, but also, by virtue of releasing them under a&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Creative_Commons_licenses\">Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share-Alike license<\/a>, allows them to be used and adapted in whatever way users want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Hestia project we built on the Perseus text\u2019s semi-automated identification of places in the&nbsp;<em>Histories<\/em>, to provide not only better identifications&nbsp;but also alignment to the Pleiades gazetteer of ancient places. (For a fuller account see under&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hestia.open.ac.uk\/publications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Publications<\/a>.) Hestia&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hestia.open.ac.uk\/hestia-phase-2\/\">phase 2<\/a>&nbsp;makes available this improved digital text with&nbsp;place references annotated to allow:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A basic search of places in Herodotus using an<a href=\"http:\/\/ark.lparchaeology.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0ARK<\/a>\u00a0database.\u00a0<em>If you would like to conduct various searches about the places\u00a0in Herodotus, click on \u201cThe Database\u201d button below.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The viewing of\u00a0these places in Google Earth.\u00a0<em>If you would like to see where\u00a0the\u00a0places are that Herodotus\u00a0mentions and find out what he has to say about them, click on the \u201cGoogleEarth\u201d button.<\/em>\u00a0(Note: (i) If you are on a school network, you might need to ask your IT team to open port 8080 open to allow the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Keyhole_Markup_Language\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">KML<\/a>\u00a0download; (ii) When GoogleEarth first opens, large red blobs will appear.
